Frequently Asked Questions

What is Chatit?+

Chatit is a secure chat application that uses advanced, end-to-end encryption to keep your conversations private.

What information do I need to sign up?+

None. Chatit does not require an email, phone number, or password. When you first open the app, it generates a unique, anonymous cryptographic identity for you. The only thing you must save is your 12-word secret mnemonic phrase.

How secure is Chatit?+

Chatit uses state-of-the-art end-to-end encryption protocols. This means your messages are encrypted on your device and can only be decrypted by the recipient. It is technically impossible for us or any third party to read your messages.

How do I add friends or contacts?+

Since we don't access your phone's address book, you add contacts by sharing your unique Chatit ID (or QR code) with them. You can find your ID in the app's 'Profile' or 'Add Contact' section.

How does Chatit use encryption to secure my messages?+

Chatit uses end-to-end encryption by default for all messages and calls. This means only you and the person you're communicating with can read the messages. Even Chatit can't access your conversations.

Can anyone else access my messages?+

No. Due to our end-to-end encryption, only you and the person you're communicating with can access your messages. Your private keys never leave your device.

What happens if I lose my phone?+

If you lose your phone but you have your 12-word mnemonic phrase, your identity is safe. You can simply install Chatit on a new device and use the 'Recover Identity' option. If you lose your phone *and* your mnemonic phrase, your identity is lost forever and cannot be recovered.

What if I forget my 12-word mnemonic phrase?+

Your 12-word phrase is the *only* key to your identity. If you lose it, your account cannot be recovered by anyone, including us. We do not have access to it and cannot reset it for you. This is the core of our zero-knowledge and private-by-design architecture.

How does Chatit protect my privacy?+

Chatit protects your privacy by never asking for personal information (like email or phone number) and by using end-to-end encryption for all messages and calls. We are a zero-knowledge platform, so we cannot read your messages or see who you are talking to.

Does Chatit store my messages?+

Chatit's servers only store messages temporarily (and in their encrypted form) if the recipient is offline. The moment the recipient comes online and receives the message, it is permanently deleted from our server. Your message history is stored only on your and your contact's devices.

How do I know if my messages are being encrypted?+

All messages, calls, and files sent through Chatit are encrypted by default, always. There is no option to turn this feature off, ensuring consistent security.

Is it possible to turn off the encryption?+

No, encryption in Chatit is mandatory and always on to maintain the highest level of security for all users.

What platforms is Chatit available on?+

Chatit is currently available for Android, with an iOS version that will be released soon too.

How do I install Chatit?+

Can I share media files (pictures, videos, etc.) securely through Chatit?+

Does Chatit use end-to-end encryption, or another type of encryption?+

Does Chatit work on public WiFi? Is it safe to use in such environments?+
